Green Barn Sunflower Photo Sessions in Isanti, Minnesota

Imagine walking through rows of bright golden sunflowers as the evening light creates a warm, dreamy glow around you. Green Barn Garden Center’s sunflower field in Isanti, Minnesota, is one of my favorite summer photography locations for families, couples, maternity sessions, seniors, and children.

What Makes Green Barn’s Sunflower Field Special?

Green Barn plants several sunflower crops throughout the season, helping provide beautiful blooms for more than just one weekend. Walking trails wind through the field, giving us plenty of room to explore and create a variety of photographs.

The field also features several fun and rustic photography props. Depending on availability, these may include vintage tractors, an old truck, a wagon, a buggy, a painted piano, a fire truck, a silo, benches, and elevated viewing areas. Props occasionally change or move throughout the season.

Because this is a working sunflower field, every visit can look slightly different. Some areas may have fresh yellow blooms, while others may feature deeper golden tones and mature seed heads.

2026 Sunflower Season

Green Barn’s 2026 sunflower season is scheduled for August 8 through September 8, weather and bloom conditions permitting.

Field hours are:

  • August 8–23: 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • August 24 through closing: 9:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.

Visitors who enter before the gate closes may remain in the field until sunset. Since sunflower blooms depend on the weather, I recommend checking Green Barn’s daily sunflower update before your visit.

Admission and Parking

Admission for the 2026 season is $7 per person, including tax. Children ages five and younger may enter for free. Admission is paid directly to Green Barn when you arrive and is not included in your photography-session price.

Parking is free and available in the field. Reservations are not required for photographers or their clients.

Admission prices, hours, and field conditions are determined by Green Barn and are subject to change.

What to Wear for Sunflower Pictures

Cream, white, rust, burnt orange, soft blue, denim, sage green, tan, and warm neutral colors photograph beautifully against the yellow flowers. Small floral patterns can also work well, especially when paired with simple coordinating outfits.

Try to coordinate your colors without having everyone match exactly. Dresses with movement, textured fabrics, boots, denim, and layered accessories can help create a warm and romantic summer look.

Avoid neon colors, very large logos, and extremely busy patterns that may compete with the flowers. I am always happy to help you plan outfits before your session!

When Should We Schedule Our Session?

Golden hour is my favorite time for sunflower photography. The soft evening light helps create the dreamy, glowing photographs that Erin Carrie Photography is known for. It is also generally more comfortable than photographing during the hottest and brightest part of the day.

Sunflowers have a short peak blooming period, so availability may be limited. Weather, field conditions, and bloom timing can also affect session dates. If necessary, we can adjust our exact photography area within the field to find the freshest flowers and best light.

What to Expect During Your Session

My sunflower sessions are relaxed, playful, and never rushed. We will walk through the field, stop at beautiful patches of flowers, and use a combination of natural prompts and lightly guided posing.

Children do not need to stand still and smile perfectly for every picture. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen while families are walking, laughing, cuddling, or simply enjoying the field together.

The trails are natural, sandy, and sometimes uneven, so comfortable shoes are recommended for walking between photography areas. You can always bring dressier shoes to change into once we reach our location. Leashed pets are also permitted in the sunflower field, making this a fun option for families who want to include their dog.

Book Your Green Barn Sunflower Session

Sunflower season only lasts for a few short weeks, making these sessions one of the most beautiful and limited opportunities of the summer. Whether you are celebrating a senior year, pregnancy, engagement, growing family, or simply want updated portraits, Green Barn provides a bright and joyful Minnesota backdrop.
